I dare say in both of those cases it is the O2 sensor. Sounds like they are just playing up, as if they completely crap out the car basically comes to varying states of being undriveable, as I mentioned in the thread I created about it a week or so ago. Others had the same issue and it helped at least one person (not sure about anyone else).

Anyways, reason I mention that is that even when my O2 sensor was completely crook, I managed to go through a full tank of gas to about 1/8th with around 330km city driving. That gives you an idea of how far you can get with a crook sensor. I'm guessing with a crook sensor, highway driving isn't much more efficient as fuel would still be being dumped into the cylinders. Considering the ranges mentioned in your posts I say an O2 sensor would be a good place to start! (and replace spark plugs if they are worn). Just remember to reset the ECU after you install it to give it a clean learning slate.

Considering the difference in fuel economy between a good sensor and a bad one, it really is economical to spend the money in replacing it. It's very easy to do yourself, and you can get them for around $60 delivered. I'm quite happy with the one I got, it seems quite decent quality.
